Triceratops, horn

Time period: Cretaceous period 145 - 66 million years ago.

Archaeological site: Rocky mountain Province of Canada

Specimen cast from a singel horn of the three horned head. Triceratops first appeared during the late Maastrichtian stage of the late Cretaceous period, about 67 million years ago. Bearing a large bony frill and three horns on its large four-legged body, and possessing similarities with the modern rhinoceros, Triceratops is one of the most recognizable of all dinosaurs and the best known ceratopsid.

Stegosaurus, tale spike

Time period: Late Jurassic period 156-146 million years ago.

Archaeological site: Cleveland-Lioyd Quarry of Utah

Specimen cast from the tail portion of the large quadruped herbivore with the two rows of plats from neck to tail. The caudal spikes were used in defence against aggressive carnivores. Stegosaurus is a genus of armored dinosaur from late Jurassic period 156-146 million years ago. There were 17 bony plates embedded along its back, alternating in alignment. Recent studies of tail spikes showed a high incidence of trauma-related damage, lends to the position that the spikes were indeed used in combat. This study showed that 9.8% of Stegosaurus specimens examined had injuries to their tail spikes. Stegosaurus had four dermal spikes, each about 60–90 cm (2.0–3.0 ft) long.

Stegosaurus, spine plate

Time period: Late Jurassic period 156-146 million years ago.

Archaeological site:
Cleveland-Lioyd Quarry of Utah

One of the big bony plates that stick out upward in two rows along the neck, back and upper tail. Stegosaurus is a genus of armored dinosaur from late Jurassic period 156-146 million years ago. There were 17 bony plates embedded along its back, alternating in alignment. These plates ran from the neck to the tail and they probably had two purposes: one was for show, so that animals could recognize each other, or make themselves look bigger and more threatening; the other reason is to get rid of extra body heat. The largest plates were roughly 2 1/2 feet high and 2 1/2 feet wide and there were bony spikes on the end of the flexible tail.

Trilobite

Time period: Devonian Period
380 million years ago.

Archaeological site:  Erfoud, Marocco

Trilobites, exclusively marine animals, first appeared at the beginning of the Cambrian Period, about 542 million years ago, when they dominated the seas. Although they became less abundant in succeeding geologic periods, a few forms persisted into the Permian Period, which ended about 251 million years ago.

The trilobite body was segmented and divided into three regions from head to tail: the cephalon, or head region, separated from the thorax, which was followed in turn by the pygidium, or tail region. Trilobites, like other arthropods, had an external skeleton, called exoskeleton, composed of chitinous material.

Ammonite

Time period: Devonian Period
409 million years ago.

Archaeological site:  Marocco dessert, east of Atlas Mountain

Ammonites first appeared in the Devonian, circa 409 million years ago and became extinct shortly after Cretaceous 66 million years ago. They are often called ammonites, which is most frequently used for members of the order Ammonitida, the only remaining group of ammonoids from the Jurassic up until their extinction.

Ammonites found today in Morocco once flourished in a warm shallow sea which covered what is now the Sahara Desert. As the shells of the creatures accumulated on the sea floor, they were buried by sediments and, over the ages, transformed into stone by physical and chemical processes

Production & Design.

All museum-quality prehistoric fossil artworks are handmade. The production time is approx. one month. Liquid form latex is applied in 20 layers, covering the original piece. Each layer of form latex needs to dry before the next layer can be applied. A box is created using forming plywood. Clay are used to create a seal around the form latex covered original fossil. 10 kg modelling plaster are used to create the outer form for stability. After the original fossil are carefully removed, fine granular cement is used to fill up the mold. The form is left to slowly dry for three days before the mold can be opened.
